The George S. & Stella M. Knight
Historical Essay Contest - 2008
The Fairfax Resolves Chapter winning essay for 2008 was written by Simon Ho, a junior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. His sponsoring teacher, AP US History teacher Thomas Sleete, helped Mr. Ho to choose his topic – “James Otis: True Father of America”.
Mr. Ho’s clear, quick presentation retelling Otis’s story and his attack on the “Writ of Assistance” at the beginning of the Revolution was compelling, and Mr. Ho went on to win the Virginia State Society’s essay contest and $500. Mr. Ho, his parents, sisters, and teacher all attended the Fairfax Resolves’ March meeting where he read his state winning essay and was presented a check and a certificate for his accomplishments. Congratulations Mr. Ho!
