2009 Cowpens Historical Observance
Members of the Fairfax Resolves Chapter and the VASSAR Color Guard traveled to South Carolina to participate in the 228th anniversary of the Cowpens battle conducted by the National Park service. The day began in downtown Spartanburg where Chapter members were joined, on a balmy 22 degree morning, by other SAR members from around the country to conduct a memorial service for Colonel Daniel Morgan. Other organizations including DAR, C.A.R., and SR also participated.
From the statue of Daniel Morgan, participants moved to the Cowpens National Battlefield where they participated in a wreath laying ceremony at the 1932 US Monument in front of the Visitor’s Center. The ceremony concluded with a firing of flintlock muskets.
