A Message from the Chapter President....

Greetings Compatriots!

Welcome to the Fairfax Resolves Chapter of the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution! With over 150 members, we are one of Virginia’s largest SAR chapters and in the nation. This 2019 will be very special as we proudly celebrate the 40th anniversary of our charter in advancing the patriotic, historical and educational goals of the SAR for all of Fairfax and Loundon Counties in Northern Virginia. We extend a sincere welcome for all new members, and I hope you will join us in the SAR’s important work.

This past year we were recognized as the Best Large Chapter in the Nation, presented the Liberty Bell Americanism Award and the President General’s Cup across all the SAR. Our all-encompassing range of activities makes us one of the most dynamic chapters in the country. Our chapter’s namesake derives from the collaborative efforts of two of our founding fathers, George Mason and George Washington. The Fairfax Resolves were both a bold statement of fundamental constitutional rights and a revolutionary call for an association of colonies to protest British anti-American actions that were adopted on July 18, 1774.

The chapter is fortunate to reside in such a historically rich geography that allows annual participation in such exciting events on our nation’s history. Many of these take place predominately around and in our Nation’s Capital, Old Town Alexandria and Fairfax cities, Mount Vernon and across the Middle Atlantic States. Additional activities include honoring our local law enforcement officers and firefighters with SAR awards, judging youth poster and oratorical contests, honoring local Patriots by marking their graves and/or enjoying a fabulous lunch or dinner with a captivating speaker. New members have so many ways to get involved in the work of the SAR. Our members are also active at the state and national levels of the SAR, serving as national officers, state officers and as state and national committee members.

In all of our programs and events, SAR members work diligently to remember and honor the Patriots who won our freedom to form our proud nation. Our collective efforts perpetuate their legacies to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, patriotism and respect for our national symbols, including but not limited to promoting pride in being American citizens and the unifying force of e pluribus unum (Out of many, One) that has created, from the people of many nations, one nation and one people.

The Fairfax Resolves Chapter is particularly well suited to the work of the SAR, as we count among our prideful membership of many current and former high-ranking military, government, business and non-profit leaders. All of our members are dedicated to advancing the purposes of the SAR, and to living out its principles here in Northern Virginia.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 has been a challenging year. Nationwide from mid-March through the summer, SAR events were cancelled. Stepping up to the challenge the Fairfax Resolves Chapter initiated the first SAR online event via zoom.com by commemorating Patriot’s Day on 17 September 2020. Over 100 people from SAR, DAR, and CAR from several states participated in this event. The event included the Color Guard and a wreath laying. We followed this up with several blended on-site and zoom commemoration events. We continue to look for innovative ways for member to participate in events that carry out the SAR mission.

If you are already a member of the SAR and would like to join the Fairfax Resolves Chapter, please contact our Secretary. If you are not a member of the SAR and would like more information about joining the SAR and the Fairfax Resolves Chapter, please click on our Membership page or contact our Registrar. Membership is open to any adult male who is a lineal descendant of a Revolutionary War soldier or patriot. Women and children interested in joining should contact the Daughters of the American Revolution or the Children of the American Revolution.

Thank you for your interest in the Fairfax Resolves Chapter. I am honored to serve as this year’s Chapter President and hope you will join us in the important work of the SAR as we honor our Patriot ancestors by promoting our Nation’s history and founding principles.

In Patriotism,

Carl Loveland

President
