A Message from the Chapter President....
January 14, 2022
Greetings Compatriots!
Welcome to the Fairfax Resolves Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, serving Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. The Sons of the American Revolution is the largest male genealogical society in the country, chartered by an Act of the United States Congress, and dedicated to maintaining and extending the institutions of American freedom, patriotism, and respect for our national symbols.
We are one of Virginia’s largest and most active chapters. Chartered in 1979, our namesake honors the actions of 25 citizens of Fairfax County who, on July 18, 1774, unanimously adopted a series of resolutions rejecting the British Parliament's claim of supreme authority over the American colonies. The Fairfax Resolves also called for the nonimportation of British goods, called for a congress of the colonies, and condemned the slave trade. They have been regarded as “the strongest documented stand against British oppression up to this time in America.”
Our chapter meets monthly from January through May, and again from September through December. Our meetings are held at a variety of venues, and feature speakers, authors, and presentations on a variety of subjects related to the American Revolution and early America. In the community we participate in a broad range of civic and patriotic events, including the marking of graves of Revolutionary War veterans. As a chapter, we sponsor annual commemorations of Patriots Day at Arlington National Cemetery, the anniversary of General Anthony Wayne’s Crossing of the Potomac in Leesburg, and the signing of the Fairfax Resolves at historic Pohick Church in Lorton.
If you are already a member of the SAR and would like to join the Fairfax Resolves Chapter, please contact our Secretary. Membership is open to any male who is a lineal descendant of a Patriotic Ancestor who supported the cause of American Independence during the years 1774-1783. Males below the age of 18 may become junior members. Women interested in joining should contact the Daughters of the American Revolution. Children may also contact the Children of the American Revolution.
Thank you for your interest in the Fairfax Resolves Chapter. I hope you will join us in the important work of the SAR as we honor our patriot ancestors by promoting our Nation’s history and founding principles.
