2014 Medal Recipient
Technician Langston Malin
Eight-year veteran Technician Langston Malin serves as the driver of Engine 410 at Fire Station 10 in Bailey’s Crossroads. He serves as mentor to junior department and volunteer members by providing instruction in driver training, pump operations, apparatus positioning, and ladder placement, strategy, and tactics. As the Fourth Battalion Training Officer (BTO), Technician Malin trained each Battalion station during the rollout of new portable radio units. He conducted additional training drills for natural gas emergencies, fire protection systems, and mayday firefighter operations. Technician Malin also developed and coordinated a multi-department Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) drill with personnel from Alexandria, Arlington County, and Fairfax County. This dynamic exercise challenged participants with unique rescue scenarios and established new insights into RIT operations across each jurisdiction in Northern Virginia. The singular accomplishments of Technician Malin reflect great credit on himself and the Fairfax County Fire Department. The Fairfax Resolves Chapter, Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution is pleased to recognize Technician Malin as Firefighter of the Year and recipient of its 2014 Fire Safety Commendation Medal.
